Exciting New Funding Opportunity for First Nations: Ontario’s Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund

The Ontario Government announced today the Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Funding.  This presents a significant opportunity for First Nations communities. The province has launched the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF), a $200 million initiative aimed at revitalizing existing sports and recreation facilities and building new ones. This funding is part of the 2024 Budget: Building a Better Ontario, which underscores the government’s commitment to fostering healthy, active lifestyles across all communities.

Key Details of the CSRIF:

Stream 1:
Focuses on repairing and upgrading existing sports and recreation facilities. Eligible projects can receive between $150,000 and $1 million, with a completion deadline of 24 months. The application deadline for this stream is October 29, 2024.

Stream 2:
Aims at building new and transformative sports and recreation facilities, including the replacement of outdated facilities. This stream offers up to $10 million in funding, with a project completion deadline of March 31, 2027. Applications for this stream will be accepted on an ongoing basis until all funds are allocated.

This initiative is an excellent opportunity for First Nations to enhance community infrastructure, creating spaces that promote physical activity, social cohesion, and cultural events. By participating in this program, your community can build or upgrade facilities that not only meet the current needs but also ensure long-term benefits for future generations.

Important Next Steps:

The Ontario Government will host an information webinar on August 27, 2024, to guide prospective applicants through the application process. This is a valuable opportunity to understand the eligibility criteria and other program details. To register, please contact CSRIF@ontario.ca.
